Up this week is Finbar247 an artist from Galway. Follow him here @finbar247
Finbar247’s instagram is a visual diary of colour and experimentation. Taking inspiration from nature and his surroundings and recreating patterns and textures in paint. He is interested in time, perception, colour, sensitivity of art in public spaces, people, communication and identity.
Finbar247 is one of Ireland’s most vibrant visual artists to use outdoor spaces as a showcase for the arts and personal expression. His most recent works include a collection of large outdoor paintings around Galway city called ‘Poetry Walls’ for Cúirt International Festival of Literature, an exciting installation at the Galway Arts Centre called ‘Love vs Fear’ and a large scale installation at Galway University Hospital which transformed the main foyer into a positive space where patients, visitors and staff are invited to reflect on their relationship with ‘Time’.
He first began painting graffiti in 2002. After studying Visual Communications at the Limerick School of Art & Design, he took off around Europe in a camper van with a Mathematician and an Engineer. Working with street artists and buskers ignited his passion for public art. He’s had the opportunity to paint in many countries including Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Switzerland and Spain, working to turn cities into colourful, inspirational place to live and visit.
He returned to his hometown determined to turn Galway – the city of the arts – into a walking outdoor exhibition. His mission is to take the old, unloved walls and spaces of the city and turn them into pieces of art for the general public to enjoy.
