What is Instagram for you?
For me, Instagram is not only a great place to share my work and to attract potential clients, but it is also an amazing avenue in which to meet and connect with other creatives, including Irish artists working in a similar field. Being part of the Instagram artistic community has been such an enlightening and inspiring experience so far and after only 4 weeks online, I’m definitely converted!

Why/when did you decide to start sharing your work there?
As soon as I graduated in late September of this year, I knew that Instagram would be the ideal platform to get me started on introducing my work to the world, as the site’s popularity, great reputation and straightforward features are ideal for emerging and established artists alike.
How would you describe your style?
My style is quite traditional and highly detailed as I aim to capture the realistic aesthetic of vintage illustration, particularly the realism and detail of classical book illustration for children, while still always featuring subtle, contemporary elements.
What materials do you mainly work with?
I usually work in traditional media including Sakura Pigma Micron pens, watercolours, and Promarkers on heavy paper, though lately I’ve been experimenting with using the Wacom Cintiq to add colour to my hand rendered pieces.
Who has been or currently is an influence on you?
As long term influences, I would have to mention the wonderful and timeless work of Arthur Rackham and the more contemporary work of Discworld illustrator Paul Kidby. More recently I’ve been inspired by the work of the Changeling Artist Collective, in particular the work of Audrey Benjaminsen & Kiri Leonard, along with the intricate and surreal work of Jeremy Hush.
What are your must-follow accounts on Instagram?
Along with the the above contemporary artists, I would say that @imaginefxmagazine, @irishdesign_irishcraft, @theaoi, @illustratorsireland, @corkartsupplies, (and of course @thisheadstuff!) are some of the top accounts that I follow closely, both for inspiration and for career enhancing opportunities.
