#23 | John Murphy

In Episode 23 – recorded at HeadStuff HQ – Alison meets TV scriptwriter and former “Flying Squad” Detective, John Murphy. (Yes, like in The Sweeney).

John tells Alison about being an Irish officer in the Metropolitan Police Force in 1970s’ London, his unusual path into standup comedy and what the writing process is like when you write everything from gags to gospel musicals.

John Murphy has written for shows like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Don’t Tell The Bride and Dancing With The Stars and is a jobbing scriptwriter based in Dublin. The documentary John mentions about his interaction with Bob Monkhouse is called Bob Monkhouse – The Million Joke Man.

Alison Spittle does stand-up comedy all the time because there’s no money in it. You can find her upcoming gigs on her website, alisonspittle.com or her Twitter.
