Why You Should Be Listening to David Tennant Does A Podcast With…

There are few people blessed with an accent that sounds like velvet. Luckily, David Tennant is one of them, which is probably why his new podcast series, David Tennant Does A Podcast With…, is so wonderful to listen to.

For starters, Tennant has an incredible range range of guests. In the first ten episodes Tennant has interviewed Jennifer Garner, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Hamm and Gordon Brown to name just a few, and each episode is fascinating for totally different reasons.

Take, for instance, Tennant’s interview with former British prime minister Gordon Brown. In just over 45 minutes you learn more about Brown’s life than you ever did in his 25 years in the public eye as an MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister. Brown talks openly about the loss of his daughter, being hounded by the media and the difficult decisions he made as Prime Minister, with the occasional thoughtful interjection from Tennant. It makes for fascinating listening.

Tennant’s Interview Style

Tennant is probing without being intrusive. With Jon Hamm, he approaches the delicate topic of the loss of Hamm’s mother at an early age. With Jennifer Garner, he discusses the hardship of the paparazzi snapping photos of her children. He is both empathetic and entertaining and rarely goes off on a tangent, something which other podcasts (*cough Joe Rogan cough*) can fall victim to.

It’s not by sheer luck that David Tennant has created one of the early contenders for podcast of the year. He has always been a terrific interviewee on panel and talks shows. He has spoken candidly on topics such as Brexit and Scottish independence, always managing to make a point while being funny.

So it’s not surprising that he knows exactly how to conduct an interview. He has a canny ability to ask the question that the listener didn’t even know they wanted answered. For example, what does Olivia Coleman do to relax? How did Whoopi Goldberg end up performing for Steven Spielberg? These are questions you will find the answer to by listening.

In a medium that is packed with many, many mediocre interview podcasts (*cough Joe Rogan cough*), David Tennant Does A Podcast With... rises above the mediocrity to gift us with a podcast that is music to our ears. So if you’re looking for a “podcast hug” without all the cognitive psychology (no shade, just more of a personal preference) look no further than Mr Tennant and his utterly fantastic podcast.

It’ll do you the world of good.
