Holy Mother of Poems is that the September Poetrybeat?

September is back with a vengeance, traffic is worse, kids have disappeared into their schooling and we’re all in need of a little poetry. So we’re here to give it to you. The summer might be over, but there are still all sorts of poems to keep you company.

Guess what’s back, back again, tell a friend, tell friend, tell a friend…

mondayecho

The Monday Echo is back on our calendars again. Thank god. Monday’s are so dreary without those baked spuds, beautiful poets and mesmerising tunes. We are always going on about the wonderful Aidan Murphy here at Poetrystuff and this is one of the many reasons why. The Monday Echo has provided many a young poet with their very first platform. It continues to do so, with an open mic at the end of a night of spell binding performances. The show is always varied and always worth the slog over to MVP, even if it’s raining. It’s a big warm cushy vibe and the talent is phenomenal. So get your sexy ass down to the Monday Echo, in MVP, Clanbrassil Street – it’s on EVERY Monday from now till Decemeber 7th. So there’s no excuse not to make one. You can see the line-ups on their wonderful facebook page.

Attention Electric Picnic heads….

If you’re wandering around next weekend at the big bad Electric Picnic, then you need to make sure you check out the MindField area. I don’t mean just casually buy a coffee there cos the coffee queue isn’t as long as it is in other places. It’s so much more than that, even if you simply spend an hour there recovering from raving in the woods or the noise of the other tents, you will leave pumped up with wordy inspiration. The line-up is phenomenal with some of Ireland and the UK’s best spoken word acts taking to the stage. There’s high-brow literature thrown in for good measure and a few laughs along the way. Check out the line-up here, it’ll get you all excited.

Moya Cannon is going to be hanging around upstairs…

moya cannon

There’s harps, a beautiful new collection and a fancy pants introduction. Sounds like a lovely evening to me. Moya Cannon is a startlingly honest poet with a unique turn of phrase. Her poems explore all sorts of wonderful themes and she will be gracing the Books Upstairs monthly meeting with a reading. She will be accompanied by a harpist, no less! So come along, and soothe your September Blues with this poetry reading. Tickets are 6 euro, it’s on Wednesday the 2nd September at 7pm and you can see lots more about it here.

We want your work SO HARD it HURTS

headstuff

You’re probably thinking, wow, that there is a familiar logo…So normally I plug another person seeking submissions. But this month I want to make it very clear that we are always open to new contributors. I would absolutely luuuurve to hear from anyone who wants to write poetry related articles. Whether you want to chat to poets, go behind the scene, rant about Heaney or any other poet that tickles your fancy, or misinterpret a poem or two. Then get in touch. We want to grow our poetry army far and wide… We publish anything brilliant, but we especially love humour, fun and insight. Pop me an email at [email protected] to enquire.

Anyway it’s September and the end of a pretty hectic poetic summer, so I am going to leave it there for now. But as ever – get out and about, write things, make things and share all those things. Don’t forget to look out for all the lovely things we’ll be bringing you this month on poetrystuff.
