Novel Fair 2019
The Irish Writers Centre launches Novel Fair 2019 on Thursday 19th April. The Fair gives beginning novelists the unique opportunity to present their work to some of Ireland’s venerate publishers and agents, and will feature some exciting speakers. Tickets to the launch here.

Bristol Short Story Prize
The Bristol Short Story Prize is an annual international writing competition open to all published and unpublished, UK and non-UK based writers. They publish an annual anthology of the winning stories as well as presenting cash prizes. The 2018 deadline is 1st May.

Poetry Day Ireland
Poetry Day Ireland takes place on Thursday 26 April 2018 and the theme is Poetry Surprises!? Whether you share a poem, read a poem, or programme your own event, everyone is invited to join in and celebrate. You can browse the Poetry Day Ireland 2018 brochure here.
A Poet’s Rising Promenade
Join writer and historian Conor Kostick for a tour of the significant locations of the 1916 Rising as featured on the Irish Writers Centre’s A Poet’s Rising app. Conor will give a brief introduction to the background history of the location/icon and also the poet and poem. The tour will bring participants first to City Hall to watch Jessica Traynor’s ‘A Demonstration’, then to the GPO for Paul Muldoon’s ‘Patrick Pearse: A Manifesto’. Following this we move to O’Rahilly Parade for Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill’s ‘Íota and Bháis’. We then head around the corner to Moore Lane for Theo Dorgan’s ‘We Carried it to Here as Best We Could’, followed by Thomas McCarthy’s ‘Garden of Remembrance’ at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square. Following the final poem, all are invited to the Irish Writers Centre for tea and coffee where the A Poet’s Rising film will be shown in full. 26th April, 1pm.
Mindshift: An Expert’s Guide to Promoting Your Book
The key to being a commercially successful writer is learning how to get yourself and your book the exposure it deserves. Join Mary Byrne (PR Director, Harper Collins Ireland), Patricia Hamilton (Director of the Aspects Festival), Michelle Mac Mullan (Senior News Anchor, Newstalk) and Bernie McGill (author of The Watch House and The Butterfly Cabinet), during this highly practical, one-day series where they will discuss their own experiences with publicity and offer advice on gaining recognition in the industry. 28th April, 10.30am at the Verbal Arts Centre, Derry. Fiction at the Friary
Fiction at the Friary is a monthly fiction event in The Friary, North Mall, Cork. Join us on the final Sunday of every month from 3-6 pm for fun and fiction, jelly beans, hula hoops, open mic and free book raffle. This event, run by Danielle McLaughlin and Madeleine D’Arcy, features readings by guest authors throughout the year, along with open mic, optional writing exercises, occasional book reviews and plenty of conversation. Everyone with an interest in fiction is welcome to attend this FREE event. This event takes place regularly on the final Sunday of the month, from 3-6 pm.
