International Literature Festival Dublin
Would you like to join the team for this year’s International Literature Festival Dublin, running May 19th – 27th? ILFDublin looking for enthusiastic and reliable individuals to assist with front of house, audience research, social media and other aspects of the festival. Applications are open until Friday 4th May.
Edna O’Brien wins PEN/Nabokov Lifetime Award
Irish novelist Edna O’Brien has been named as the winner of the PEN/Nabokov award for achievement in international literature, for “the absolute perfection of her prose” and her “powerful voice”. O’Brien is the author of the celebrated Country Girls trilogy, which was banned upon its first publication in Ireland.
Second Sally Rooney novel due in September
Sally Rooney’s second novel Normal People is due for publication by Faber & Faber in September.

Stinging Fly seeks new writers
As part of its 20th birthday celebrations, The Stinging Fly is accepting submissions through the month of March from writers who have not been published in print before. If you are a new, unpublished writer you can send them one or two of your poems or a short story before the end of the month. You must be a new writer with no previous publication (fiction/poetry) in print – be that in a journal, magazine, newspaper, book or zine. Submit here.

Supports for Children’s Writers
In April the Irish Writers Centre is joining forces with Children’s Books Ireland and Words Ireland to present a panel event on ‘Supports for Writers of YA and Children’s Books’. The panel will address ways to gain access to information on writing and the industry, as well as ways to find other revenue streams to support yourself and your career as a YA and/or Children’s Book author. Tickets are only €11 and can be booked via eventbrite.
One City One Book: The Art of the Short Story
To mark 2018: One City One Book, which this year celebrates Sinead Gleeson’s The Long Gaze Back, The Irish Writers Centre presents a day-long series celebrating the art of the short story. The series consists of three writing workshops with acclaimed authors June Caldwell, Christine Dwyer Hickey and Nuala O’Connor. Details here.
Book Launch | The Woman in the Woods
To celebrate the launch of his new book The Woman in the Woods, John Connolly will be joined by composer and musician David O’Brien at Smock Alley Theatre in what promises to be a unique and thrilling evening. The launch event will be followed by a book signing in The Gutter Bookshop. 28th March at 6.30pm.
Poet Vona Groarke in conversation with journalist Olivia O’Leary
“They tuck you up, your mum and dad” (Adrian Mitchell’s softer take on Philp Larkin’s original line) is the title for this series of conversations featuring some of Ireland’s finest writers and poets as they reflect on the often complex parent / child relationship through memoir and poetry. UL / Frank McCourt Creative Writing Summer School
The UL/Frank McCourt creative writing summer school is taking place at University of Limerick from May 3rd to 6th with a stellar line-up of guest speakers. The summer school is open to everyone but places are limited. No previous writing experience is required but some would be helpful. The fee is €200, €150 (student/unwaged).
