Spring Has (Nearly) Sprung

Spring is but two days away, rejoice and be glad! What do we have to celebrate? Many things but here are a few to ponder; longer days, bluer skies, possibilities, the spirit of renewal and the fact that St. Vincent tickets went on sale yesterday. If you haven’t already bought your ticket, (you’re mad) get on that shit – the best €36 you’ll spend this week, I reckon.

Bored Shitless

Sinéad O’Connor has withdrawn her application to join Sinn Féin.

Choice

The nominations for the Meteor Choice song of the year have been announced. Frontrunners include Hozier and Delorentos. Are these your favs?

Is This The Future?

Here’s Fatback with a funk classic from 1983. Golden.

Law Games

Taylor Swift is attempting to trademark some of her most recent lyrics, including; “this sick beat”, “party like it’s 1989” and “nice to meet you, where you been”. Although this sounds kind of hilarious, there’s big money to be made by slapping phrases onto merchandise. Currently Swift’s name, signature and initials already enjoy trademark protection.

Some interesting thoughts on work ethic and potential.

Aerobics

‘Aerobic Lambada’ is the new offering from Stockholm native, Zhala. Signed to Robyn’s Konichiwa Records, Zhala released her debut EP, Prophet, last February.

Wolf

Another Swede! Jennie Abrahamson recently toured with Peter Gabriel and filled in for Kate Bush on ‘Don’t Give Up’. ‘Wolf’ is produced by The Knife collaborator, Johanness Berglund. With notes of Bush and Grimes, ‘Wolf’ avoids ‘the big chorus’ and is all the better for it.

Lotto

LA-based Kali Uchi with ‘Lottery’. Sounds a little like Amy Winehouse mixed with Mo’s ‘Don’t Wanna Dance’:

4AD

Arguably one of the best and most influential indie labels, 4AD have racked-up a ridiculous amount of whopper albums since its inception in 1980. Here’s a Top 10 for you to peruse.

Strange Hellos

I sadly missed Torres’ Sugar Club performance last year (choir rehearsal – super dedicated). Not attempting to be trendy or cool, ‘Strange Hellos’ is another great song from the American.

Curious about soundtracks? Boom.

It Is Only Going To Get Better From Here On Out

This is very short, very sweet and very inspiring. Sufjan, I’m a fan.
