EP Review | David Kitt Lights Up on Like Lightning

Like Lightning, is the brand-new extended-play from singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Kitt. The six-track offering is an emotionally heartfelt body of work.

The title-track, ‘Like Lightning’, opens the EP. It previously served as the lead single from David’s Yous, the album that was released earlier this year through All City Records.

Following the previous track, ‘Between Thresholds’, is an instrumental offering. It has a heavier production with spacey synths.

‘Lessa Lit A Candle For Me’ is a beautifully produced track that includes David’s signature sound with elements of electronic and folk instruments.

An interlude to the EP, ‘54 Seconds Under Glasgow’ closes in at 54 seconds. It’s a great addition to the EP with its hauntingly production.

‘Betws Y Coed’ is another distinctive instrumental track. Along with the folk-infused production, there are traditional overtones throughout making the song come alive. The skilful talents throughout this particular track create such a moment on the EP.

‘Your Blues’ closes the EP with a smashing ending that will make the listener want to hear more from David.

It’s an exceptional EP over the course of the six tracks. The stunning tracks flow through his stories, instrumental, and voice. It was produced with excellence showcasing his effortless talents.

From the beginning of the EP to the end, there’s something special throughout the six-tracks. As there is a lot of different musical tastes throughout, David never strayed from where he wanted to take this body of work. With electronic beats, finger-picked guitars, instrumental numbers, combined with poppy melodies and immersive compositions.

For the last few years, David has toured and recorded as part of Tindersticks. As well as being a member of the group, he produced other musicians’ songs. He explored genres of music from disco to techno, whilst remixing work by the likes of The XX. He continued to build up his ever-growing musical resumé while producing DJ sets and radio shows. Now, rolling on to today, he has released his latest album Yous, while using all his experience to make sense of his world, reflect on his life, and making an independent step into music himself.
