What’s Going on in The Lacomic Cup – Round 2 info & Round 3 Underway

Shit’s getting’ real now. We have entered Round 3 of the Lacomic Cup. The 8 stories are here for you to enjoy and vote on. In this round, the writers who won their matches in Round 2 (winning €200 each in the process), had to write a new story between 250 and 300 words, this time the story had to be set in a hotel and feature at least three speaking characters.

The judge for this round is Irish comedian and podcast host Jarlath Regan.

The Lacomic Cup is sponsored by Sober Lane.

Round 2 was judged by Colm O’Regan and he had this to say about the judging process:

It was my first time judging anything and I was surprised by what a responsibility it is to be In terms of standard, imaginative, most were well-written, a few had a twist i didn’t see coming. Also as someone who talks a lot about one day writing fiction or short stories it might have been the kick up the hole I need to put my own out there to be judged. These people let their ‘babies’ out to be judged so I should too.

The Audience Choice Award was won by Cian McGarrigle for his story ‘Gotta Name it Good’. A hamper of books worth over €100 from Kennys.ie is on its way to him right now. The Voter’s prize was won by reader Shane Callan.

The finalists who didn’t make it through to Round 3, but who are all great, and did very well to get this far are:

Margaret Cahill – ‘Some Things Are Best Left Alone’

Dara Griffin – ‘I Dumped Facebook’

Michael McLaughlin – ‘Brunnmigi’

Carina Rawein – ‘The Demonic Dinosaur’

Julia Dennehy – ‘EOL’

Stefania Hartley – ‘The Great Bootie Sale’
