2020 Game Releases That Would be Amazing in VR

The turn of the new year has seen the release of an array of video games. While many of them vary in genre, several newly-released titles would offer gamers an immersive experience in virtual reality. Although VR technology isn’t yet integrated into every mainstream game, it doesn’t mean that we can’t explore the developments that would flourish with a more in-depth, simulated play style. So, let’s take a look at several 2020 game releases that would be well suited to VR software.

Bier Haus Oktoberfest

Interestingly, virtual reality can be implemented across numerous different types of games, and not just traditional console releases. Because of this, it could provide a route into cultural insights and country-related themes, such as Oktoberfest. Having begun in 1810, the Munich-based event has since become the largest beer festival in the world, spanning over 16 days, according to Vistawide. Due to its world-renowned status, this has been the inspiration behind various elements of pop culture, including WMS’ Bier Haus Oktoberfest slot game. VR software could undoubtedly enhance player experiences for a game with such a physical basis. The slot game’s lighthearted themes and slick animations make it an ideal candidate for virtual reality.

Cyberpunk 2077

As per a report by PCGamesN, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t support VR because it’s not yet a viable option. Considered as being one of the most highly-anticipated games of 2020, the role-playing game could have been the catalyst in taking VR gaming to new heights. Scheduled for release on November 19th, 2020, the sci-fi RPG promises to expand on the freedom offered by their paradigmatic work, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The title adopts a dystopian futuristic setting that combines various forms of advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence. Oddly, the use of VR software for this game could have made for some immersive irony. By allowing simulated experiences to alter player experiences, it would somewhat feed into Cyberpunk’s premise of fighting the system and its highly-advanced technology.

Fall Guys

At the time of writing, Mediatonic’s Fall Guys isn’t compatible with VR technology, yet the title appears to suit a simulated outlook. Upon being fully released on August 4th, 2020, the platformer battle royale has taken the gaming world by storm. In the first 24 hours after digitally hitting the shelves, EuroGamer report that Fall Guys amassed over 1.5 million players. Moreover, it also became the second most-viewed video game on Twitch shortly after, surpassing Call of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Fortnite. There can be no doubt that the Mediatonic creation would be well suited to VR technology. The game’s action-packed, animated nature draws on the success of popular TV shows, including Takeshi’s Castle and Total Wipeout. For the gaming world, Fall Guys is unique. With three-dimensional levels, the fun could only be enhanced, helping to bring to life the title’s various mini-games.

F1 2020

Over the last few years, VR technology has continually been explored throughout racing titles. However, Codemasters have yet to integrate simulated offerings into their F1 franchise. On paper, the combination of high-speed, open-wheel racing and VR is an intriguing one. Given that core components, such as wheels and seats, have been created to ensure a more lifelike experience, virtual reality would appear to be the next step. F1 2020 would have been astonishing had it been compatible with VR. Theoretically, the software would offer racers a more realistic racing experience, allowing them to visualize integral parts of the circuit more clearly, including braking zones and pit stops. Given that professional drivers have simulators at their disposal, VR would almost mirror that experience for modern-day gamers.

While, in their own right, each of the above titles is well developed, VR could heighten the levels of immersion in each. It’s our hope, then, that the technology’s widespread integration in the coming years will come to these already popular games.
