This week our Instagram Pick of the Week is Donough O’Malley.
What is Instagram for you?
Instagram is primarily about images which is what appealed to me. But beyond just being a portfolio platform,
I can show more of what is going on in the background of my life, progress of work and for discovering other people’s imagery.
Why/when did you decide to start sharing your work on there?
I started on instagram back around 2013. Originally I was just sharing photos of a trip to South America, but gradually over time
I got braver and started to show more of my illustration and design work
How would you describe your style?
Describing my style can be a bit tricky as it seems to be constantly changing, but I always aim to have a fun contemporary feel
with a limited palette.
What equipment do you use?
I’m pretty much completely digital these days, so it’s my iMac and Wacom that are essential to me.
Who has been or currently is an influence on you?
Oh lots, mid-twentieth century poster designs have stuck with me since childhood.
More contemporary influences are people like Steve Simpson, Yasmeen Ismail and Owen Davey.
What are your must-follow accounts on Instagram?
Illustration Ltd. Tony Pritchard, Type Directors Club, American Illustration Awards and Soviet Logos to name just a few.
What’s the best hashtag going and why?
I’m a sucker for any hashtag about type. And spaniels. Can’t get enough of spaniels.
