IWC Online Writer-in-Residence Opportunity!

Key objectives of residencies:
The selected writer acts in their own capacity as IWC Online Writer-in-Residence for a period of 6 months. The purpose of the residency is three-fold:
- To showcase the writer’s own work.
- To act as the IWC’s ‘person on the ground’ – attending events, launches and festivals that the IWC can’t always attend.
- To report on the literary scene in Ireland from ground level and provide insight and content to be published on Headstuff.
- To produce a report for the IWC after the engagement period which advises on a future iteration of the residency.
Online WIR commitment:
- To write four pieces, with two focussing on an event or programme that the IWC is undertaking during the engagement period.
- 2 pieces showcasing the Online WIRs own work.
- To be relatively active in co-promoting IWC courses, events and programmes through social media.
- To be a subject for our Humans of No. 19 Blog, and to introduce the next appointed Online WIR.
- To agree with the IWC a system for creating and sharing content for social media purposes.
- To attend an agreed number of IWC events/workshops/projects to act as a stimulus or focus for the written pieces.
- To write a final report recapping on the residency including recommendations on how best to showcase content produced as a result of the various IWC residency and collaborative programmes.
While the writer has the freedom to express their own thoughts without restriction, the IWC asks that the selected Online WIR be respectful of others and to keep it clean. We reserve the right to immediately withdraw any potentially libellous material which may harm the interests of the IWC and its constituent writers.
Upon agreeing to the role, the Online WIR will provide a schedule of when and what they propose to write during the engagement period. The Online WIR will coordinate directly with the Irish Writers Centre and HeadStuff so as to allow for planning in respect of publication and pre-publication date promotion. Once a schedule is agreed, it will form part of this agreement.
Who is eligible to apply?
This is an open call to writers who are living on the island of Ireland. Applicants must have a proven track record and at least one book of fiction or short stories published by a recognised publisher. Experience of leading creative writing workshops is essential.

Please include:
A cover letter including your personal details which includes:
- A proposal outlining in detail ideas and approaches around engagement and interaction during this residency. Please outline why you wish to undertake the residency and how you might be best suited to the role (maximum 2 pages).
- An updated Curriculum Vitae (max. two A4 pages) including publications with ISBNs.
- Clearly labelled samples of recent work (three short samples from different works of up to 400 words or between 4-6 poems. Please do not send more as it will not be read.)
- Any relevant information (as necessary) on your proposed project such as written excerpts, photos, research information, etc. (max. two A4 pages)
Please collate all application material into one attachment to ensure that it is eligible for consideration.

Thursday 23 May, 5pm. Late applications will be not be considered.

- Suitability of proposal in context of Enable Ireland
- Quality and feasibility of proposed ideas
- Facilitation experience
Applications will go before a selection committee, comprising of a representative from both the Irish Writers Centre and HeadStuff.
The fee offered is €1,000 inclusive of VAT and expenses.
