Your eye is still water, absorbing
the cloudy agitation of teenagers.
Your ear holds their voices, the clang
of metal lockers echoing
in the dim corridors of your dreams.…
James Whyte’s poems have been published in Skylight 47 and in New Roscommon Writing 2014 – 2018 (Roscommon County Council, 2018). He is the author of History, Myth and Ritual in the Fiction of John McGahern (Edwin Mellen Press, 2002) and teaches in a secondary school in County Galway.
