Tittererer’s Digest |70| Tiger Dublin Fringe Special
Hello! Here we are now, in the autumn. Look at us, enjoying the leaves, etc. I’m going away for two weeks. Luckily the Tiger Dublin Fringe is here to keep you all occupied. I know the lack of a regular Tittererer’s Digest can have a devastating impact on some of you. I’m gonna focus on the comedy bits of the festival here because I am a philistine. Also, there might be a few additional bits of non-festival titterering at the end. We’ll see how tired I am. you might notice some regular HeadStuff faces in this list and that’s because They’re my favs and that’s why I keep featuring them. Deal with it.
1. Tiger Dublin Fringe Comedy Highlights
The Alison Spittle Show: Dublin Fringe Spectacular
Let’s start with our beloved HeadStuff Podcast Network host Alison Spittle. She’s recording a big, big episode of her podcast on the 18th upstairs in Project Arts Centre. If you check out the listing on the website here it says the guests are a surprise but Alison said on Twitter that it’s Karl Spain and Erin McGathy so SURPRISE. They’ll both be great. Check out Erin McGathy’s podcast This Feels Terrible as well if you get a chance. it’s v v good.
Gearoid Farrelly: Things
Next up is our other beloved HeadStuff Podcast Network host Gearoid Farrelly with his show Things. It’s a show about decluttering and moving on. If you were at the first night of HeadStuff Lectures you got a little taste of it. I was there and I can tell you that it was very good and funny and Gearoid is very good and funny. Things is running from the 12th to the 17th in The Stag’s Head. Read more HERE. Do it.
Dreamgun: Mimes In Time
My love of Dreamgun should come as no surprise to anyone who reads Tittererer’s Digest. I am FUMING that I can’t get to this. Everybody who’s seen it says it’s brilliant. So you should go and then you can be one of those people. It’s about mimes who operate a time machine and features no actual mime. Sold right? It’s on from the 13th to the 17th in Science Gallery Studios 1 & 2. Information things here
Andréa Farrell: Who Loves You?
Andréa Farrell! Also from the first night of HeadStuff Lectures! That night she talked about anxiety and depression and that’s what her fringe show is about too. Andréa is so funny you guys. Just so funny. Her episode of Juvenalia is “dropping” on Thursday and we just had the best time chatting to her. There’s a good forty minutes of chat either side of the actual podcast recording itself that we could have included but couldn’t because we weren’t recording and also defamation reasons. So yeah, go to this. It has possibly the best comedy poster ever, truly iconic. the show’s been on since the 12th but it’s on till the 17th in the International Bar so you have time.Check it out here. Davey Reilly: Dysmorphin’ Time!
And then there’s Davey Reilly, star of FACTS and co-host of the Stoneface Podcast which technically makes him our rival but he’s sound so we’ll talk about him anyway. His show is about body dysmorphia and eating and Power Rangers. If you heard him on This Feels Terrible (that’s a callback, wheels within wheels…) you’ll know that he speaks very thoughtfully about these things and is also extremely funny so this is a MUST. A must I say. It’s on from the 19th to the 24th in The Stag’s Head and you can read more about it here.
The whole comedy lineup is great actually, these are just the ones that I have some personal experience of. I never claimed Tittererer’s Digest was objective. This is my kingdom.
2. Chris Kent
Next up is a comedy show that isn’t part of the Dublin Fringe but which you’ll definitely like as well. Chris Kent. He’s in Whelan’s on Friday the 16th. Kent has a very engaging, affable kind of stage presence. I saw him MC a gig at the Cat Laughs a couple of years back. It was an early Friday evening gig which is code for Everybody’s Sober and the acts were lovely weirdos like Bec Hill, Tony Law, and David O’Doherty. Not a natural crowd for a Cork storyteller you might think but he was great. the crowd loved him. Tony Law was drunk and called us all stupid for ten minutes. A fun early evening was had by all. This is a long-winded way of saying that Chris Kent is worth your time and money.
3. Watch A Woman Tell Her Husband She’s Pregnant While Conan O’Brien Pours Good Milk Down The Sink

4. Carrie Brownstein: The Realest Real
Your fav and mine Carrie Brownstein has directed her first short movie! It’s about social media, it’s called the Realest Real and she made it for Kenzo. I won’t say too much now but meet me under the video after you’ve watched it for some thoughts.

5. The Gay and Wondrous Life Of Caleb Gallo

Brian Jordan Alvarez’s excellent pansexual LA comedy Caleb Gallo was our lead story a few Digests ago. At that time, four of the five episodes of season one had been released. Well guess what? Episode five is here! Hooray! I haven’t watched it yet because I’m waiting for my wife to come home so we can watch it together but I’m excited. Are you excited? I’m excited.
