NO ENCORE #021 | Keep The Kaar Running

The NO ENCORE studio is a place of warm embrace this week as producer and beat-maker extraordinaire Toby Kaar reunites with old school chum Colm O’Regan. Also present in these most intimate confines are Dave Hanratty and Craig Fitzpatrick, though they see one another every week so it’s less of a special treat.

But there are treats in store for you, dear listener, treats in the form of wild current music affairs, new songs that might be worth listening to, a new album that definitely isn’t worth listening to and the chance to win Electric Picnic tickets. Exciting.

N.B: Frank Ocean madness and excitement unfolded after the podcast was recorded so look for lots and lots of related thoughts and debate on next week’s episode.

ACT ONE: Yet more Suicide Squad talk, a brief recap of Louis C.K. in Dublin and the lads get ready for their close-up.

ACT TWO (6:50): Billie Joe Armstrong sounds off in predictable and tired fashion, Billy Corgan sounds off in predictable and tired fashion, Justin Bieber betrays the faithful and Vince Staples reviews the Olympics.

ACT THREE (29:20): The return of Bon Iver leads the charge for the most notable new efforts of the past week or so. Pixies, Slaves and OneRepublic also feature.

ACT FOUR (45:40): Rabble-rousing singer/songwriter Jamie T is back and he’s got a rather busy fourth album with him. Trick hits streaming services and shelves on September 2 but your intrepid NO ENCORE crew (and Toby) have the early verdict.

EXIT MUSIC: Maija Sofia – ‘Stains’
