Events
This Thursday, the Irish Writer’s Centre are hosting the launch of White Sorrow by Andrea Aviet. The event will begin at 6:30 in the Benedict Kiely room.
Those looking for spoken word performance should head to Chaplin’s Bar next Tuesday for Operation Noise Upstairs.
As always O Bhéal will be meeting in the Long Valley pub in Cork for an evening of spoken word performance this Monday. This week’s guest is Lorna Shaughnessy.
A festival in Newbridge Co. Kildare, celebrating the life of Gerald Manley Hopkins begins this Friday. Events at the festival will encompass all of Hopkins’ interests including painting, music and philosophy.
News
Author of the Twilight Trilogy, Stephanie Meyer will publish a new novel in November. It will be her first book aimed at an adult audience, and will feature an adult protagonist and an espionage theme. Reference to the main character’s ‘unique talents’ in a description from Meyer’s publisher suggests their abilities will not be entirely within the realms of reality. Could this be supernatural espionage?
Situations
The deadline for the Books Ireland Magazine Short Story Writing Prize will pass on the 31st August. The contest is adjudicated by Vanessa Fox O’Laughlin, writer, literary agent, and founder of writing.ie. First place is a 400 euro cash prize, a writing course at the Irish Writer’s Centre and publication in Books Ireland.
Swarm, an online literary magazine concerned with ‘potent’ work, are accepting submissions until 31st July. Each issue features just two stories and two poems so send your best material.
