Lit Events
The International Literature Festival is pitching up in Dublin so there will be piles of great events this week. Though they are clogging up the new events section of your Lit Review.
Patrons can take the Flann O’Brien bike tour (!), hear some new poetry at the Poetry Ireland Introduction Series, or find out how to get their work published at The Irish Writer’s Centre. There are also free events like Literary Laps on Saturday morning, which gives you the chance to clock up a few kilometres with published authors.
Saturday is the Lit Review’s day of choice: in the afternoon there’s a panel, chaired by Penguin Ireland YA editor Claire Hennessy. Anna Seidl, Deirdre O’Sullivan, and Juno Dawson, transgender activist and award-winning author of the upcoming title Mind Your Head, will be speaking. Lionel Shriver and Chris Kraus are also both in town on Saturday evening.
In Cork, O Bhéal will be gathering in The Long Valley for their weekly dose of poetry, storytelling and music. This week they will be celebrating the women of 1916 with newly commissioned poetry and music.
Mike McCormack’s new, Tramp Press published book Solar Bones was launched in Galway last week. At the Dublin launch, guest speaker Kevin Barry described it as an “all or nothing, f**k it lads we’re going to go for it” type of book.
Lit News
IFTN has it that production company Five Knight Films are developing a film adaptation of Rob Doyle’s award winning novel Here are the Young Men. Kingdom of Scars author Eoin Macken is to direct the feature.
American author Jonathan Franzen made an appearance on the television quiz show Jeopardy. His chosen charity was the American Bird Conservancy (…)
Situations
The another round of submissions for Irish journal The Incubator will open in June. This time out, they will be taking one scene plays, flash fiction and short stories.
Dalkey Archive Press are currently offering 3 editorial internships. Interns will report weekly to the offices in Trinity College to report on assigned books. “Advanced” language skills are a plus.
