NO ENCORE #005 | Know Your RED ENEMY

Episode five of the NO ENCORE podcast begins in solemn fashion as HeadStuff Music Editor Dave Hanratty and Newstalk rock and roll business wordsmith Craig Fitzpatrick weigh up the passing of the brilliant, brilliant Prince, shortly after the news broke. Regular co-host Colm O’Regan is sadly absent from proceedings but he provided the above image, so we’ll let him away with it. Speaking of The Purple One, head this way to read Dean Van Nguyen’s superb tribute to the man.

The show, as they say, must go on and so we welcome the excellent Red Enemy to the fray as frontman Kevin Letford and guitarist Conor Dockery get comfortable in HeadStuff HQ. On the agenda; Dave goes to a Macklemore gig and winds up on JOE.ie, how the Red Enemy boys wound up in DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit fame’s gaff and all the usual music news, reviews, select cuts and another fun Top 10 countdown in the middle.

ACT ONE: Dave welcomes Craig back to the podcast following his jaunt to Prague and the two-man crew attempt to make sense of Prince’s death. There’s also live reports from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ 3Arena showdown and a typically epic turn from Explosions in the Sky at Vicar Street before…

ACT TWO (25:40): Red Enemy invade the studio and assist with pressing news matters including Kanye West‘s apparent mission to become the George Lucas of music and Axl Rose becoming the new frontman of AC/DC. What a glorious trainwreck that should be.

ACT THREE (53:00): It’s time for this week’s mirthsome TOP 10~!

ACT FOUR (1:04:20): The Song of the Week is revealed; a collaboration that fits like a particularly caustic glove.

ACT FIVE (1:09:00): Dave and Craig get their Paxman on and subject the Red Enemy lads to a serious grilling.

ACT SIX (1:32:25): Everyone pitches in with some thoughts on The Hope Six Demolition Project; the ninth studio album from the enduring and esoteric PJ Harvey.
