Tittererer’s Digest #43 (feat. Will Forte and Kristen Schaal)

Ok Tittererers, I know this is two days late but there was a paucity of stuff this week and then all of a sudden there’s loads again. The mysterious ways of the digest. This week we have the return of Will Forte and Kristen Schaal in Last Man On Earth, 37 Female Comedians talking about what they’d do with their own late night talk show, and many, many youtube videos. Let’s Digest.

1. Will Forte and Kristen Schaal – The Last Man On Earth

I don’t recommend telly stuff here very often because I tend to watch stuff the legal way so by the time American things get over here you’ve all seen them already like the evil pirates that you are. Sometimes I get lucky though, like today where I can talk about The Last Man On Earth and be a #relevant #content #gentleman.

So, when The Last Man On Earth began, it was about Phil Miller (Will Forte, acting), the only survivor of a global apocalypse. Over the course of season one, Phil became more and more unhinged as other survivors turned up and he attempted to readjust to society, culminating in him being left for dead in the desert until his ex-wife Carol (Kristen Schaal, also acting), turned up and they decided to go it alone.

Now that we’re all caught up, Dave is showing season two a day after it airs in the US so we can pretend like we’re Americans which I’ve previously stated I’m a fan of. You can catch up with episode one here and it’s on Dave, Mondays at 21:00

2. Aunties – Bedspring Bob

Damon Blake and George Fox are Aunties. They found an old ad for a bed shop(?) in a box and it is quite frankly chilling. Full disclosure, Damon and I both worked on an RTÉ web series aimed at teenz that was way ahead of its time and will be cruelly overlooked when historians turn their quills to the Story of Vlogging but we’ve never actually met so this video is here ON ITS OWN MERITS.

3. Lemonade Stand – Cool Dad

I don’t have any children, partially because I’m so disgusted by the way the teenz rejected that web series that Damon Blake and I worked on. If I was a father though, I’d definitely try to impress children with my knowledge of the Discworld and two month old memes. Oh yes, I would be an on fleek dad. Here is a sketch by Lemonade Stand about another, even cooler, dad.

4. 37 Female Comedians On Whether They Would Want To Be A Late-Night Host.

American late-night talk shows are very, very male. The presenters are male, the writing staffs are overwhelmingly male, there’s probably a third thing but the first two are enough. This is a well-established fact by now. We have enough thinkpieces about the maleness and, in particular, white maleness of late-night and I’m not going to add to that here. It’s hard to believe that no one thought to ask women if they actually wanted to host late-night shows until now but Vulture has done it and the unsurprising answer is that they do and they have big ideas as well. I hope to see Rachel Dratch’s show on the air within six months. Someone give Rachel Dratch a show you guys, she deserves it.

Anyway, read it here

5. Cascade Up – How One Writes A Novel

In which Cascade Up accurately captures the Digest-writing process.

6. College Humor – Everything Wrong With Trendy Restaurants

This is just a very good sketch that nails every punchline and is very good.

Another week, another digest. There’s probably at least one thing you like in there so it was definitely worth the wait right? Right? Goodbye.
