Poem of the Week |8| The Boy Who Lost An Eye

The Boy Who Lost An Eye

Marble-like but squishy
it rolled out the door
one night as he slept.
It rolled down hills
and up hills.
People waved at it
from cars and aeroplanes.
It blinked
and kept on rolling.
Hawks and owls flew above
eyeing it but never descending,
they just followed it
through the night
obeying it like a North Star.
Until the boy woke up
put his hand to his missing eye
and realised.
